Sweethearts Ball

Back when the fire department first began, they used the Sweethearts ball as a celebration for those FD members who made it home to their sweetheart and family.
Now we use it as a thank you to our sweet heart for putting up with us and sticking around through it all.
Here are some of the things my sweet hearts deals with on a regular basis.
  • My pager go off in the middle of the night, on Christmas, during family dinners and he never asks me not to go.
  • I am surrounded by 40 men and he never gets jealous or possessive with my time.
  • When we do have fires, they last for anywhere from 3 to 7 hours on scene.
  • Sometimes I wake him up after a bad call and cry.
  • Like any association there is politics involved so I am constantly venting about something that's irritated me.
  • When I don't feel like going to drill, he makes me because he knows I would be disappointed in my self if I didn't.
  • After a fire, I stink, I am crabby and tired and usually have a headache.
  • For the last three years we have had a serious call on his birthday which means I'm not even around.
  • And the one that irritates him the most, when a car accident comes in over my pager and I can't find him, I panic and call him until he answers. Every time.
Those are just a few. When people joke with me about how often he is gone during hunting season, I just try to remember those things.
Thank you Sweetheart.
